How To Fold A Dress Shirt In 30 Seconds

November 19, 2018 by Sean Parry

If you do not have enough hangers or space in your wardrobes to hang up any additional shirts, the next best solution to to fold them neatly, making sure that the front panel and collar is uncreased. If you stack a few shirts on top of each other, it will also look much neater – like you find in shirt makers shops.

There are a number of ways to do this, but they are all broadly based on the same technique. We like the video below from Martha Stewart, that shows you the easy way to do this.

1. Take your shirt and button up the top collar button, bottom and a couple of the buttons in between (There’s no need to button all of them, as this simply wastes your time buttoning / unbuttoning).

2. Lay the shirt front side down on a flat surface – a table or bed ideally.

3. Take one of the sleeves, and about 2 inches of the back of the shirt fabric (from top to bottom) and fold back on itself.

4. Take the sleeve and fold in on itself 3 times and lay it on top of the fabric, behind the middle of the back.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the the other sleeve.

6. Once both sleeves are tucked, then take the bottom of the shirt and fold it up to a third from the top of the shirt.

7. Then fold it again just below the collar.

8. Now turn the shirt over, pull the fabric tight and smooth out any creases.

If you’ve just washed your shirt, it’s worth looking at our other blog post on How to Iron A Shirt In 3 Minutes  to give it a quick iron, before folding it away neatly.

Of course, all our cleaners are happy to iron and fold away your clothing. Further information can be found on our website, or feel free to call us if you have any questions.
