When cleaning your floors, a little goes a long way in the battle to tackle dust, dirt, grime, food and any other nasties that lurk at the base of your feet. You may not have given it much thought, but with the range of flooring options today in modern homes there are inevitably a range of cleaning products to best meet the demand. Whether it’s hardwood floors, ceramic tiles, lyno or just good old-fashioned carpet, there’s a suitable product for each. Let’s take a look.
First, let’s look at the most common type of floor, fitted carpeted floors. The king and undisputed champion for carpets are the vacuum cleaners; Dyson’s Vax and Henry’s being some of the leading names. Modern vacuums come with an array of attachments and nozzles enabling you to get into every nook and cranny. If you have stubborn stains then cleaning products such as Vanish are great treatments to remove undesirable marks and stains; fresh powders will also reinvigorate your room.
Next let’s move onto hard flooring, this covers everything from ceramics to wood. The main recommendation is to always thoroughly sweep any hard floor before you attempt to clean; a quick vacuum never did any harm either. For tiles you may opt for a mop and bucket combined with a light detergent. Be careful when considering bleach as this has the potential to stain your expensive floor. Mopping works best with a clean mop and bucket whilst rinsing regularly, it is imperative that you dry the floor thoroughly after use. The main drawback from a mop is that it takes time to dry or you are required to dry the floor manually, stubborn stains can also be a problem; if you mop too hard you’re liable to scratch the floor or even break your mop!
Thankfully technology has come a long way and we are now inundated with mops and steamers capable of the job. A steam cleaner is great asset, as it provides you with the instant cleanliness of a mop but without the need for drying. However you won’t get such a thorough clean as detergents and cleaning products do not mix so well with the steam. For a thorough clean the mop is your best weapon.
Whether you’re a regular cleaner or a spring clean, bulk job taskmaster taking consideration of what type of mop and cleaning product you use for your floors is important. Simple miss-haps can soon become expensive mistakes to the detriment of your wallet and the value of your home, always look after your asset and remember to clean with intelligence.
