The one thing that everyone looks forward to when entering a hotel room is the bed. We all expect the room to be clean but we all hold a certain expectation of what we expect the bed to look like. The experience of returning to your hotel room after a long day and seeing your bed returned to this expert state is an added bonus that I, for one, really enjoy!
So why don’t we try and get the same expert turn-over service when we get back off of our holidays? Maybe it is a busy schedule or maybe you feel that your own personal bed linens are not quite up to the job? Well, have no fear! Below I have constructed an easy guide on how you can make a bed just like a hotel maid!
First things first. To get the authentic hotel bed look you will need:
- A set of sheets (one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases)
- Two (or more) pillows
- A Blanket (if desired)
- A Duvet
- One (or more) decorative pillows
Something that we often overlook when speedily changing the sheets on our beds, is the mattress itself. When was the last time you flipped it or sprayed it to clean? If your mattress is starting to smell stale a good tip is to spray it with an odour neutralizing spray or sprinkle it with baking soda and vacuum it. Also, check and see if your mattress is actually comfortable. It is a lot cheaper to purchase a piece of memory foam for your mattress to get that that added support!
The first step is one that we should all be familiar with! You simply put on your fitted sheet on your mattress, pulling it tight to ensure that no extra material remains on the surface. If your sheet is slightly too large, I always recommend pulling it tight on the most hidden side, such as a side against the wall or headboard.
Next, stand at the foot of your bed and shake the flat top sheet out, making sure to adjust it so that it drapes evenly and has equal overhang on each side. At the top of the bed, smooth the hem into a straight line right along the edge of the mattress. Then move to the bottom and gently pull it downward until the sheet lies smooth, with any excess hanging off the bottom. It is this smooth finish will make it look like a hotel bed!
It is the corners though that will really transform your bedroom into a hotel; perfect those hospital corners! Stand on one side and grab the sheet and blanket, pulling the edge up about twelve inches from the end of the bed. Lift the edge to make a diagonal fold. Lay the fold onto the mattress and pull it smooth. Tuck the hanging portion of the sheet and blanket under the mattress with your other hand. Drop the fold and pull it smooth then tuck it under the mattress. Repeat this process on the other side of the bed.
Finally fluff up your pillows and duvet and put them into place, adding as many pillows and cushions as you see fit!
Alternatively, if you really do not have enough time for all these steps, you can look to hire a cleaner in your area. Cleaners in London can vary greatly, so make sure that you get the best standard out there for your money!
